The M.A. FORD 20017700 is a solid carbide, straight-flute die drill bit designed for precision holemaking in demanding industrial and toolroom applications. It carries a 0.1770-inch diameter (Wire Size #16), a 135-degree split point, and an uncoated finish, making it well suited for controlled entry and accurate hole placement without a pilot. The 2-flute geometry with web thinning reduces thrust force and improves chip evacuation. At 2.0 inches overall length with a 0.625-inch flute length, this is a short, rigid drill built for tight-tolerance work in die sets, molds, and fixture plates. It meets DIN standards and is manufactured to a diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches.
This drill bit is used in machining and tool-and-die environments where close-tolerance holes are required in hard or abrasive materials. It is appropriate for right-hand cutting operations on CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. Secondary applications extend to alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, hardened materials, high-temperature alloys, titanium, ceramic, and glass. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision fabricators working in job shops or production environments are the typical users.
Compatible with primary workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel, as well as secondary materials such as alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, hardened materials, high-temperature alloys, titanium, ceramic, and glass. Designed for use in Series 200 die drill applications per DIN standards.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die professionals. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation, and verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits for close-tolerance work. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed parameters for the workpiece material being drilled.
