The M.A. FORD. 20017300 is a solid carbide, straight-flute die drill bit engineered for precision holemaking in demanding materials. It carries a 0.1730-inch diameter, corresponding to a No. 17 wire gauge size, with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust on entry. The two-flute, right-hand cutting geometry and web-thinned construction promote chip evacuation and extend tool life in tough workpiece materials. At 2.0 inches overall length with a 5/8-inch flute, this bit is suited to short, controlled drilling cycles where rigidity matters. It ships uncoated and conforms to DIN standards.
This drill bit is designed for holemaking in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, titanium, hardened materials, ceramic, and glass. Its solid carbide construction makes it appropriate for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and precision manual drilling operations found in tool-and-die shops, aerospace component work, and general metalworking applications. The split point and web-thinned tip geometry are particularly useful when drilling harder or more abrasive materials where a standard point would deflect or dwell.
Designed for holemaking in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, titanium, hardened materials, ceramic, and glass, as defined by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
This bit is installed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians in CNC or manual drilling setups. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are properly secured before operation, and verify that the chuck or collet is rated for the 0.1730-inch shank diameter. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material when conditions allow, even though the bit does not feature through-coolant capability. Follow all applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines when setting speeds and feeds for carbide tooling.
