The M.A. FORD 20004200 is a solid carbide, straight-flute die drill bit engineered for precision holemaking in demanding materials. It carries a 0.0420 inch cutting diameter with a tight tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches, a 135-degree split point for reduced thrust and accurate entry, and a web-thinned geometry that improves chip evacuation at small diameters. Overall length is 1.5 inches with a 0.25 inch flute length and a 1.25 inch shank. The uncoated carbide construction is suited to machinists and toolmakers working in high-precision die, mold, and close-tolerance applications where dimensional accuracy is critical.
This drill bit is designed for holemaking in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, titanium, hardened materials, ceramics, and glass. The Series 200 designation positions it as a general-purpose carbide die drill for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills where small-diameter precision holes are required. It is a right-hand cutting tool and does not require coolant-through capability, making it compatible with standard collet toolholding setups at the 0.0420 inch shank diameter.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard-stock die drill bit for applications requiring a wire gauge No. 58 (0.0420 inch) diameter hole in the M.A. FORD Series 200 product line. Compatible with workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S per standard material classification.
Installation and use of this tool should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolmaker familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the bit in a precision collet or drill chuck rated for the 0.0420 inch shank diameter before use. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper setup, or excessive feed rates that can cause breakage. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when operating at the spindle speeds appropriate for this diameter and material combination.
