The M.A. FORD. 17850032NA is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in ferrous and exotic alloys. It carries a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 1-3/8 inch length of cut, and a 0.015 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the tool tip. The AlTiN (ALtima PVD) coating provides thermal resistance and oxidation protection at elevated cutting speeds. With 5 close-pitch right-hand spiral flutes and a 38-degree medium helix, this tool handles both roughing and finishing passes in a single setup. Extended reach and a 3-1/8 inch reach length make it suitable for deeper cavity work without requiring a longer shank.
This end mill is built for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium — material codes P, M, K, and S. The single-end, centercutting design allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral and slot milling. The straight-cylindrical 1/2 inch shank mounts directly into standard end mill toolholders. It belongs to M.A. FORD. Series 178N and is classified as a long-length type, making it well suited for mold and die work, aerospace component machining, and general production environments where reach and finish quality are both required.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Intended for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, K, S) on CNC machining centers and manual mills where extended reach is required.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as runout directly affects corner radius tolerance and surface finish.
