The M.A. FORD 17850012A is a single-end corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 1/2 inch diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and five flutes ground from solid carbide. The tool carries an ALtima AlTiN PVD coating that raises surface hardness and thermal resistance, extending tool life when cutting at elevated speeds and feeds. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute spiral geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. The centercutting design allows plunge entry. Series 178 from M.A. FORD targets both roughing and finishing operations on difficult workpiece materials.
This end mill is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium in CNC milling applications. The close-pitch, five-flute configuration supports higher feed rates while maintaining surface finish quality. A 3 inch overall length and 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank fit standard toolholders found in vertical and horizontal machining centers. The regular-length flute and medium helix style make it a practical choice for general-purpose milling, profiling, slotting, and contouring where corner protection and edge strength are priorities.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, K, S).
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the shank fully within the toolholder to the manufacturer-specified gauge length before tightening. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating to maintain the tight diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0030 inch on the mill diameter.
