The M.A. FORD. 17831214A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials. The cutter measures 5/16 inches in diameter with a 0.03-inch corner radius, 13/16-inch length of cut, and a 2.5-inch overall length. It carries five flutes with a medium, right-hand spiral helix and is finished with an ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating for extended tool life in abrasive and high-temperature applications. The straight cylindrical shank also measures 5/16 inches in diameter. This tool is rated for both roughing and finishing operations and is suitable for use with standard toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers will find it well suited to precision work in close-pitch applications.
This end mill is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium - material groups P, M, K, and S in ISO classification. It is a single-end, centercutting tool with right-hand cutting direction, making it compatible with standard vertical and horizontal milling setups in job shop, die-and-mold, aerospace, and general metalworking environments. The long-length designation provides additional reach for deeper pockets and stepped features without sacrificing rigidity at this diameter. It is not configured for coolant-through delivery.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 5/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material groups P, M, K, and S). Part of the M.A. FORD. Series 178 long-length corner radius end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an energy-isolated state before tooling changes. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Confirm feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine capability before engaging the cut.
