The M.A. FORD. 17831212A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It measures 5/16 inches in diameter with a 0.015-inch corner radius, five flutes, and a 13/16-inch length of cut. The tool features an ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating that extends tool life when cutting abrasive materials. At 2.5 inches overall length with a straight cylindrical 5/16-inch shank, it fits standard toolholders used in CNC milling operations. This is a single-end, centercutting tool with right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting direction, suited for both roughing and finishing passes.
This end mill is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The close pitch, medium helix, and spiral flute geometry make it appropriate for a wide range of milling operations including profiling, slotting, and contouring where a controlled corner radius is required. It is commonly used in job shops and production machining environments where tight tolerances on hardened or high-temperature alloys must be maintained. The 0.015-inch corner radius reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge, extending tool life in interrupted or continuous cuts on difficult workpiece materials.
Designed for use with standard CNC milling toolholders accepting a 5/16-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium per the manufacturer material application codes P, M, K, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the toolholder collet or chuck is clean and within specified runout tolerance before seating the shank. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Do not exceed the manufacturer-recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the specific workpiece material and machine rigidity.
