The M.A. FORD 17731504A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance milling in demanding materials. The tool features an 8 mm cutting diameter with a 1.5 mm corner radius, a 19 mm length of cut, and a 63 mm overall length. Four flutes with a variable helix geometry and ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating deliver efficient chip evacuation and heat resistance across a wide range of material hardnesses. Centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. This end mill is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals running CNC machining centers and manual mills where edge geometry and coating quality directly affect tool life and surface finish.
This end mill is suited for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The short flute length and straight-cylindrical shank are well matched to close-tolerance work in production and job-shop environments. The 8 mm shank diameter fits standard collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and hydraulic toolholders commonly used on vertical and horizontal machining centers. Single-end design means the tool is replaced rather than indexed when worn, making it straightforward to manage in high-volume setups.
Designed for use with standard collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and hydraulic toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), superalloys, and titanium (S). Part of M.A. FORD Series 177.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per shop safety procedures. Verify toolholder runout before securing the shank to maintain diameter tolerance of +0.000/-0.058 mm at the cutting diameter. Follow machine tool manufacturer torque specifications when tightening collet nuts or set screws - do not over-tighten, as this can damage the shank. Confirm cutting parameters (speed, feed, depth of cut) against the tool manufacturer recommendations for the specific workpiece material before starting a new program.
