The M.A. FORD. 17731212A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials. It carries a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) mill diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and four flutes with a variable helix geometry to reduce chatter and improve surface finish. The tool is coated with ALtima, a PVD-applied AlTiN coating that extends tool life in high-heat cutting environments. It is a single-end, centercutting design, allowing plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot milling. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this end mill in CNC machining centers using standard straight-shank toolholders.
This end mill is suited for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The 13/16 inch length of cut and 2-1/2 inch overall length make it appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth milling in precision components. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC milling setups. The Series 177 designation places it within M.A. FORD. regular-length tooling for general and production machining applications.
Designed for use with standard straight-shank toolholders in CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Secure the shank fully into a clean, undamaged toolholder collet and torque the retention nut to the toolholder specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut. Do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut for the workpiece material being machined.
