The M.A. FORD. 17728104A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It carries a 0.2812-inch (9/32 inch) mill diameter and a 0.0300-inch corner radius, producing a controlled edge break on finished cuts. The tool features 4 flutes with a variable helix geometry and an ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating, making it suitable for high-speed cutting in ferrous and hard materials. With a 2.5-inch overall length and a 5/16-inch straight cylindrical shank, this end mill is designed for installation in standard toolholders used in CNC machining centers and manual mills. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for both roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The short flute length of 0.25 inches and a 5/16-inch length of cut support rigid setups with reduced overhang, which is critical when working in tough, work-hardening materials. The centercutting design allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. It is a single-end tool in the M.A. FORD. Series 177 product line, intended for precision-toleranced machining environments where surface finish and edge integrity matter.
Designed for use with standard toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Mill diameter tolerance is +0.0000/-0.0030 inches. Shank diameter tolerance is +0.0000/-0.0003 inches.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder collet or chuck and torque to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the corner radius and cutting edges for chips or coating damage before each use, as edge damage in hard-material applications can accelerate tool failure.
