The M.A. FORD. 17721812A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 0.2187-inch mill diameter, a 0.015-inch corner radius, and four flutes with a variable helix angle ranging from 35 to 38 degrees. The AlTiN (ALtima) PVD coating improves heat resistance and tool life when cutting ferrous and exotic alloys. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 7/16-inch length of cut, this single-end, centercutting tool is suited for both roughing and finishing operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The short flute length and straight cylindrical shank make it well-suited for tight-tolerance profiling, slotting, and contouring passes where corner edge integrity is critical. It mounts in a standard toolholder accepting a 1/4-inch shank diameter. The variable helix geometry helps reduce chatter and harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts, making it a practical choice for production environments handling difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (Material Codes: P, M, K, S). Part of M.A. FORD. Series 177.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in an energy-isolated state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Confirm shank seating depth and toolholder runout before operation, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear on carbide tooling. Do not exceed the recommended depth-of-cut or feed rates for the workpiece material and machine rigidity. Carbide end mills are brittle and should not be used in machines with significant spindle play or inadequate rigidity.
