The M.A. FORD. 17718704A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 3/16 inch cutting diameter, a 0.03 inch corner radius, and 4 flutes with a variable helix geometry in the 35 to 38 degree range. The AlTiN (ALtima) PVD coating provides thermal and wear resistance, making this tool well suited for aggressive cuts in hard and abrasive materials. The single-end, center-cutting design allows plunge entry and full-slot milling. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The 17718704A is a short-length end mill with a 3/16 inch length of cut, a 2 inch overall length, and a 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank that seats directly into standard toolholders. Its combined roughing and finishing capability makes it appropriate for production runs and prototype work where surface finish and dimensional control both matter. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists following shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the set screw or collet nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, and confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and depth of cut.
