The M.A. FORD 17712502A is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling operations in demanding materials. Built to Series 177 specifications, it features a 1/8 inch diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and 4 flutes with a variable helix angle ranging from 35 to 38 degrees. The ALTiN (ALtima) PVD coating provides elevated heat and wear resistance, making this tool well-suited for high-speed cutting in ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces. The single-end, centercutting design supports both plunge and peripheral cutting. Overall length is 1.5 inches with a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. This tool is used by machinists and CNC programmers working in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Its short flute length of approximately 0.113 inches (decimal) keeps the cutting zone rigid, reducing deflection during tight-tolerance finishing passes. The 1/8 inch length of cut and matching 1/8 inch reach length suit it to shallow-pocket and contour work where a compact tool profile is required. It is compatible with standard toolholders accepting a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The variable helix geometry aids in breaking up harmonic chatter during both roughing and finishing passes on difficult materials.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers and manual mills configured for small-diameter solid carbide tooling. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, K, S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the toolholder. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as small-diameter carbide tools are sensitive to concentricity errors that accelerate edge wear. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque for 1/8 inch shanks.
