The M.A. FORD. 16405000 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking and machining applications. With a 3/64 inch (0.0500 inch) mill diameter and a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank, this stub-length tool offers rigidity and accuracy in tight-tolerance cuts. The 2-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation. Center-cutting capability allows for direct plunging into workpiece material. The uncoated carbide construction suits applications where coating buildup is a concern or where regrinding is anticipated. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install and operate this end mill on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on a broad spectrum of materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, consistent with its primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub length overall length of 1.5 inches and 0.1 inch length of cut make it well-matched for shallow slotting, profiling, and contouring passes where tool overhang must be minimized. It is appropriate for both production and prototype machining environments requiring small-diameter precision tooling.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated by the manufacturer, covering steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and similar materials.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with small-diameter end mill practices. Secure the shank fully in a compatible collet or end mill holder rated for 1/8 inch shanks, and verify runout before engaging the cut. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting tooling. Use appropriate cutting speeds and feed rates for the workpiece material and tool diameter, as small-diameter carbide tools are sensitive to excessive radial load and vibration.
