The LOCTITE LOC233017 is a silicon carbide grease-mix lapping compound used for precision surface finishing, valve lapping, and the seating of mating metal parts. Sold under the Clover brand name, this compound combines abrasive silicon carbide particles with a grease carrier to keep the abrasive suspended and lubricated during use. At 80 grit, it falls in the medium-coarse range, making it well suited for initial stock removal and rapid surface conditioning before progressing to finer grits. Each container weighs 1 pound. Licensed tradespeople and machinists in HVAC, plumbing, and industrial service work rely on this compound for valve reconditioning and precision seating tasks.
This compound is used wherever two mating metal surfaces must be lapped to a precise fit — including gate valves, ball valves, check valves, engine components, and pump seats. The 80 grit grade is a common starting point when surfaces show noticeable wear, pitting, or uneven contact. It is appropriate for both field service and bench-top shop use. The grease-mix formulation helps prevent the compound from drying out during extended lapping sessions.
Designed as an OEM-style lapping compound for use on ferrous and non-ferrous mating metal surfaces in valve, pump, and precision mechanical assembly applications.
Apply with a lapping tool, driver, or lapping plate appropriate for the surface being conditioned. Ensure all system pressure is relieved and the valve or component is fully isolated before beginning service. Thoroughly clean all compound residue from mating surfaces before reassembly, as residual abrasive will cause accelerated wear in service. Work should be performed by qualified technicians familiar with the component being lapped.
