The LEVITON TELCOM T1636-IG is an isolated ground duplex receptacle designed for sensitive electronic and data equipment installations. Built on a 2-pole, 3-wire configuration with a NEMA 5-20R outlet pattern, this receptacle provides a dedicated isolated ground path that separates the equipment ground from the building ground plane. That separation reduces electrical noise and ground loops that can disrupt computers, audio-visual systems, medical equipment, and other noise-sensitive loads. The orange face color is the industry-standard visual identifier for isolated ground receptacles, making them easy to distinguish on a panel or outlet strip during service. Licensed electricians install this device as part of a clean-power or sensitive-equipment circuit.
The T1636-IG is suited for commercial, institutional, and light-industrial environments where electronic equipment requires low-noise power. Typical applications include data centers, server rooms, broadcast facilities, medical offices, and recording studios. It is wired into a dedicated branch circuit and installed in a standard single-gang or multi-gang electrical box. The isolated ground terminal is connected directly to the equipment grounding conductor without bonding to the metal yoke or box, per NEC Article 250 provisions for isolated ground receptacles.

Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), including Article 250 requirements for isolated ground conductors. De-energize the branch circuit at the breaker panel and verify the circuit is de-energized with a voltage tester before beginning work. The isolated ground terminal must be connected to a separate insulated equipment grounding conductor run back to the panel and must not be bonded to the device yoke, outlet box, or building steel. Confirm the outlet box and cover plate are rated appropriately for the installation environment.
