The LEVITON TELCOM AFTR1-KW is a 15-amp, 125-volt tamper-resistant Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) outlet designed for residential wiring applications. AFCI protection detects dangerous arcing conditions in branch circuits and trips before an arc-related fire can start. The tamper-resistant shutter mechanism prevents foreign objects from being inserted into the slots when a plug is not present. This device is installed by licensed electricians during new construction or renovation work where the National Electrical Code requires AFCI protection.
This outlet is suited for bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, and other areas where current NEC editions mandate AFCI protection. It replaces a standard duplex receptacle at any 15-amp, 125-volt branch circuit location and is finished in white to match common wallplate and device color schemes. Note that this unit ships without a wallplate, so a compatible decorator or standard wallplate must be ordered separately.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation AFCI outlet for standard 15-amp, 125-volt residential branch circuit locations requiring arc fault protection per applicable NEC requirements.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code and all applicable local codes. Turn off the branch circuit breaker and verify the circuit is de-energized with a non-contact voltage tester before beginning any wiring work. Confirm the existing circuit is rated for 15 amps and 125 volts before connecting this device. Do not install on circuits exceeding the rated voltage or amperage of this outlet.
