The KYOCERA TSJ89269 is a cermet turning insert in the SPMR322 TN60 grade, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to ISO and ANSI standards under the ISOI series, this square-profile insert features a TiCN and NbC coating applied to a cermet substrate, delivering strong wear resistance and edge stability at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. The insert has a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch corner radius, a neutral hand orientation, and provides four usable cutting edges per insert. It is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder with a positive rake geometry and a clearance code of P.
This insert is suited for finish to semi-finish turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. Typical applications include external turning, facing, chamfering, and boring. The positive rake and sharp cermet edge make it well matched to low-carbon and alloy steels where material grades P01, P10, and P20 are specified. It is a multi-use insert appropriate for light-to-medium depths of cut up to 0.125 inches on machines with stable setups and consistent coolant delivery.
Designed for use in SPMR-style clamp-type toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO insert seating standards for square inserts with a clearance code of P and tolerance code of M. Primary workpiece material is steel; secondary workpiece material is stainless steel, corresponding to ISO material grades P01, P10, and P20.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable insert toolholding systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify the clamp is torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new edge, as contamination in the pocket can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure.
