The KYOCERA TSJ00742 is a cermet turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. Featuring a 55-degree diamond shape (DCMT style) with a TN60 cermet grade, this insert delivers consistent performance on steel workpieces where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. It carries a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, a honed cutting edge, and a TiCN plus NbC coating classification noted as uncoated process, making it well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. With two available cutting edges, the insert offers cost-effective utilization per unit. It is held in place by a screw-type clamping method and conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards.
This insert is used in external turning, back boring, and copying operations on steel workpieces. It fits DCMT-style toolholders common in production turning environments, including CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The HQ chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations on steel, particularly in the P01, P10, and P20 material grade range. It is appropriate for both job shop and production line use where tight tolerances and smooth surface finishes are required on ferrous materials.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with applications targeting steel workpieces in material grades P01, P10, and P20. Industry standard number DCMT3252HQTN60.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper insert seating and prevent edge chipping. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.3047 inches as specified for this insert geometry.
