The KYOCERA TLD01792 is a cermet turning insert in the CNMG431PP geometry, coated with TiCN via a PVD Megacoat Nano process and designated grade PV720. It features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The insert carries a negative rake angle of -10 degrees, a neutral hand, and a honed cutting edge style. With four available cutting edges and compatibility with both clamp and pin holding methods, this insert is suited for production turning operations where extended tool life and consistent surface finish on steel-group materials are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for external turning, boring, internal facing, chamfering, and facing operations. Its primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P-code), with secondary suitability for stainless steel (ISO M-code). Material grades P01, P10, and P20 indicate a range from light finishing to moderate roughing cuts on ferrous materials. The maximum depth of cut is 0.1667 inches, and the insert length is 0.5000 inches, placing it in standard CNMG432 envelope tooling systems per ANSI and ISO standards. The ISO code equivalent is CNMG120404PP.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders following ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for multi-use applications including boring, external turning, chamfering, facing, and internal facing. ISO code CNMG120404PP confirms fitment in standard metric toolholders accepting that geometry. Industry standard number CNMG431PPPV720 applies.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and the turret or tool block fully de-energized before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert. Follow ANSI B212 or ISO 1832 toolholder guidelines for proper seating and clamping to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure.
