The KYOCERA TKT03790 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VCMT style, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation VCMT151505 and ISO designation VCMT080202, with a PR930 grade and a PVD-applied TiCN coating. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape and positive rake geometry combine to reduce cutting forces and extend tool life. The HQ chip breaker targets finishing and medium machining applications. The inscribed circle measures 0.1875 inches, insert thickness is 0.0938 inches, and the corner radius is 0.008 inches. Screw-type holding secures the insert in compatible toolholders.
This insert is suited for external turning, facing, profiling, copying, back boring, internal facing, and undercutting operations. Its PR930 grade is engineered for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness when cutting steel (P) and stainless steel (M) workpiece materials. The super micrograin carbide substrate supports consistent edge performance in both light finishing passes and medium material-removal cycles. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it adaptable to left- or right-hand toolholder setups. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shop or production environments will find this insert suited to tight-tolerance turning on ferrous materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-grade turning insert compatible with VCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO insert mounting standards. No specific toolholder model numbers were provided in the product data.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a safe, powered-down or E-stopped state. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before installing the insert. Use the correct clamping screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the cutting edge and corner radius condition before each use; do not continue running a visibly worn or chipped edge.
