The KYOCERA TKE00103 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on stainless steel and steel workpieces. It carries the ISO code ABS15R4005M and manufacturer grade PR1225 with a MEGACOAT PVD coating applied for extended wear resistance. The insert is right-hand oriented with a positive rake geometry, a 0.05 mm corner radius, and two cutting edges. At 15.4 mm in length and 3.97 mm thick, it fits screw-style toolholders in the BTI series. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators use this insert in production and job-shop environments where tight tolerances on difficult-to-machine alloys are required.
This insert is suited for turning stainless steel (ISO material code M) as its primary workpiece material and steel (ISO material code P) as its secondary application. The ABS insert shape, 75-degree included angle, 30-degree lead angle, and 15-degree relief angle make it appropriate for profiling, back turning, and general-purpose turning passes. A maximum depth of cut of 4.20 mm and a honed cutting edge style support both finishing and light roughing passes. Material grades P10 through P30 and M10 through M40 indicate a broad working range across multiple steel and stainless alloy classifications.
Designed for BTI-series screw-clamp toolholders accepting an ABS insert style with a 3.00 mm hole diameter and an inscribed circle of 0.2760 decimal inch. Industry standard number ABS15R4005MPR1225 can be used to cross-reference compatible holders per ANSI and ISO tooling catalogs.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and all motion axes locked. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the recommended seating feel without over-torquing the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will cause premature edge failure. Confirm insert orientation matches the right-hand designation before resuming cuts.
