The KYOCERA TKC09474 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drillling systems requiring a ZCMT-style seat. It carries the PR1230 manufacturer grade with a MEGACOAT PVD coating applied over the carbide substrate, delivering consistent edge performance in steel cutting applications. The diamond-shaped insert provides four usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per hole. At 0.1563 inches thick and 0.563 inches in length, it is sized to the ZCMT12T306 ANSI standard. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for drilling steel workpieces, classified under ISO material group P. It belongs to KYOCERA's DRZ series and is suited for through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations where consistent chip control and edge integrity are required. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it appropriate for both rigid setups and applications where minimizing spindle load matters. Facilities running high-volume steel drilling will find the four-edge configuration useful for lowering per-piece insert cost.
Designed for use in KYOCERA DRZ-series indexable drill bodies that accept ZCMT12T306-style inserts. Verify drill body seat specifications against ANSI code ZCMT12T306 and ISO code ZCMT12T306 before installation.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered off and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Always index or replace all inserts in a multi-insert drill body at the same time to maintain balanced cutting forces.
