The KYOCERA TJY18890 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 13 threads per inch (TPI). Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form on a wide range of workpiece materials. The right-hand configuration suits standard external threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The 16ER insert style seats in compatible laydown threading toolholders. The 60-degree included angle matches the standard UN thread profile. A 9.53 mm inscribed circle and 3.68 mm thickness (0.1449 inches) define its seating geometry. This insert is installed and indexed by machinists and CNC operators in production and maintenance turning environments.
This insert is suited for external UN threading applications across a broad range of materials, including steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, and non-metallic workpieces, consistent with its universal primary workpiece material rating. The TF series designation and PR1115 grade make it appropriate for both light and moderate threading passes on CNC turning equipment. The TiAlN coating supports performance across varying cutting speeds where heat resistance and edge integrity matter.
Designed as a laydown threading insert for use in 16ER-style threading toolholders. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the holder manufacturer's insert seating specifications for the 16ER insert style and 9.53 mm inscribed circle.
This insert is indexed and replaced by machinists or CNC operators during scheduled tooling changeovers or upon edge wear. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specification when seating the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or contamination before installing a new insert.
