The KYOCERA TCR89123 is a ceramic grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the KCG series insert style with a manufacturer grade of A65, this insert features an aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and titanium carbide (TiC) ceramic composition engineered for high-hardness applications. The cutting width measures 0.062 inches with a maximum depth of cut reaching 0.094 inches, making it suited for tight, controlled groove profiles. Clamp-style holding secures the insert firmly in compatible toolholders. This is a right-hand insert with a neutral rake and a lead angle of 3 degrees. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is primarily intended for grooving and parting operations in cast iron and other hard materials. The ceramic Al2O3 and TiC finish supports elevated cutting speeds where carbide inserts may underperform, particularly in dry or semi-dry machining of cast iron components. Typical applications include automotive, heavy equipment, and industrial part production where surface finish and groove accuracy are critical. This insert is sold individually per package at a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in KCG series insert toolholders accepting size 3062 grooving inserts. Primary workpiece material compatibility is cast iron (Material Code K) and hard materials (Material Code H). ANSI code KCG3062RA65 and ISO code KCG3M157R can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify clamp engagement before resuming cuts. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for feed rate and speed recommendations specific to ceramic insert grades and the workpiece material.
