The KYOCERA TBR05640 is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision machining of non-ferrous metals and superalloys. Carrying the VBMT331SE geometry and KPD001 manufacturer grade, this single-tipped insert features a 35-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a relief angle of 5 degrees. The honed cutting edge and bright, uncoated finish make it well suited for applications where surface integrity and tool life on abrasive or gummy materials are priorities. A corner radius of 0.0156 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0827 inches support fine finishing and light profiling passes. It is screw-held and conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards.
This insert is intended for CNC turning centers and lathes performing external turning, facing, copying, profiling, back boring, internal facing, and undercutting operations. Its primary workpiece materials are non-ferrous metals and superalloys, including aluminum, copper-based alloys, and high-temperature superalloy components. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible positioning in compatible toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, automotive, and precision component shops will find this insert appropriate for tight-tolerance finishing cuts where carbide grades fall short in edge life or surface finish quality.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for VBMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 35-degree diamond insert. Industry standard number VBMT331SEKPD001 applies for cross-reference purposes.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torque driver for the clamp screw to ensure the insert is fully seated without over-torquing the screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before each insert change to maintain positional accuracy.
