The KYOCERA TBR05639 is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert in the VBMT style, designed for high-precision single-point turning operations on non-ferrous metals and superalloys. It carries a 35-degree diamond shape (insert shape code V), a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.008-inch corner radius with a honed cutting edge for clean, consistent tool engagement. The insert is uncoated, uses a positive rake angle of 10 degrees, and is screw-held for secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. Grade KPD001 super micrograin PCD construction delivers the hardness and edge retention required for demanding finish and semi-finish cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working with aluminum, copper, and high-temp superalloy components are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for external turning, facing, copying, profiling, back boring, internal facing, and undercutting operations. It is single-tipped and neutral-handed, making it adaptable across a range of toolholder configurations. Applications include finish turning of non-ferrous workpieces such as aluminum castings and copper alloys, as well as superalloy components where edge integrity and surface finish are critical. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries ISO code VBMT160402SE, which allows for cross-referencing with ISO-compliant tooling systems. Maximum depth of cut is 0.098 inches, keeping the insert in its intended light-to-moderate cut range.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for VBMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO VBMT160402 mounting specifications.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the insert clamping screw to avoid cracking the PCD substrate — do not overtighten by hand or with uncontrolled tooling. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure full contact and accurate tool geometry.
