The KYOCERA TBN06070 is a Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) turning insert designed for precision machining of hard and difficult-to-cut materials. Manufactured under the VNGA insert style with a 35-degree diamond shape, this insert carries the KBN05M grade and features KYOCERA MEGACOAT PVD coating applied to a honed cutting edge for consistent performance and extended tool life. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.375 inches decimal), insert thickness is 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches decimal), and corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0156 inches decimal). It is a multi-tipped, neutral-hand insert with six cutting edges, conforming to both ANSI and ISO standards under ISO code VNGA160404ME4.
This insert is suited for external turning, facing, copying, and undercutting operations on hard workpiece materials classified under material grade H01 and H10. It is commonly applied in CNC turning centers where hardened steels, hard cast irons, and similar hard materials require high-precision finishing cuts. The ISOI series designation and negative rake geometry make it appropriate for rigid setups where chatter control and dimensional accuracy are critical. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0787 inches. Insert holding method is clamp and pin, standard for VNGA-style toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style CBN turning insert for VNGA-style toolholders used in hard-turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Compatible with clamp and pin holding systems. Suitable for multi-use applications including copying, external turning, facing, and undercutting on hard materials graded H01 and H10.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque on the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications, and verify seating against the pocket before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before each insert change to maintain dimensional accuracy.
