The KYOCERA TBN02212 is a cubic boron nitride (CBN) turning insert in the DNGA431 geometry, designed for high-speed, high-hardness machining applications. It carries the KBN05M grade with a MEGACOAT PVD coating, delivering high wear resistance when cutting hardened ferrous materials. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. Thickness is 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch). With two cutting edges and a negative rake, it is engineered for stable, precision finishing and semi-finishing passes on hard workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert.
The TBN02212 is suited for external turning, boring, and copying operations on hardened materials classified under ISO material group H, including hardened steels and hard cast irons typically in the 45 to 70 HRC range. The maximum depth of cut is 0.1024 inch. The ISOI series follows ANSI and ISO standards (ANSI code DNGA431, ISO code DNGA150404S01225ME), making it a direct-fit option for standard DNGA-style toolholders used on CNC lathes and turning centers in both small-batch and high-volume production settings.
Designed for use in standard DNGA-style toolholders on CNC lathes and turning centers. Conforms to ANSI insert code DNGA431 and ISO insert code DNGA150404, fitting toolholders engineered to those specifications. Intended for machining hardened materials in ISO material grade classifications H01 and H10.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before seating or replacing the insert. Verify the toolholder pocket and clamping pin are clean and undamaged before installing the insert to maintain proper seating and cutting-edge repeatability. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and observe applicable shop safety procedures for CBN tooling.
