The KYOCERA SGS PRECISION TOOLS 31480 is a double-end, 4-flute ball end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. Constructed from micrograin solid carbide and coated with TiN (Titanium Nitride), it delivers consistent cutting performance and extended tool life compared to uncoated HSS alternatives. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. With a 0.5-inch mill diameter and 0.625-inch length of cut, this stub-length end mill is suited for contouring, profiling, and finishing operations where rigidity and accuracy are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers will find it well-matched to production and close-tolerance work.
This end mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills where ball-nose geometry is required for 3D contouring, radius profiling, and blending surfaces. It accommodates a broad range of workpiece materials including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The double-end design maximizes value per tool, allowing the operator to index to a fresh cutting end when the first is worn.
Designed for use with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Part of the KYOCERA SGS Series 14B stub-length ball end mill lineup.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Secure the shank fully into a collet or end mill holder rated for the 0.5-inch shank diameter, ensuring runout is within acceptable tolerance before cutting. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before engaging the cut. Never exceed the recommended length of cut; excessive overhang beyond the flute length can cause deflection or tool breakage.
