The KYOCERA OTM86357 is a steel-body indexable insert drill engineered for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. Rated to a maximum drill depth of 7.5 inches at a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio, it accepts a 2.5-inch diameter bore. The drill body measures 9.21 inches in total body length with a 3.25-inch shank length and mounts via a 2-inch diameter Whistle Notch shank. Right-hand cutting direction and coolant-through capability make it well suited for production-floor use on CNC machining centers and horizontal boring mills. Weighing 7 pounds, it is part of the Holeshot series and takes four indexable inserts per assembly.
This drill is intended for industrial machining environments where consistent, repeatable large-diameter hole production is required. Typical applications include structural component machining, die and mold work, and general production drilling in steel and ferrous materials. The coolant-through design supports chip evacuation and tool life in deep-hole drilling scenarios. Machinists and CNC programmers working on high-volume production runs will find the 3xD ratio and indexable insert format suited to reducing cycle time and tooling changeover.
Compatible with Drill Style DR toolholders. Accepts WCMX-style indexable inserts; confirmed compatible insert: WCMX 06T308-M1A. Designed for use in CNC machining centers and spindles accepting a 2-inch Whistle Notch shank.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in E-stop or locked-out before mounting or removing the drill body. Confirm proper shank seating in the Whistle Notch interface and verify coolant-through passages are unobstructed before beginning a cut. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and insert manufacturer feed and speed guidelines for the workpiece material being drilled.
