The KNIPEX 4911A2 is a straight-head external retaining ring plier designed for installing and removing external snap rings on shafts and rotating components. Built to DIN 5254 A standards, it covers a ring diameter range of 3/4 inch to 2-3/64 inches, making it suitable for a wide spread of shaft sizes encountered in HVAC equipment, pump assemblies, and general mechanical work. The pliers feature inserted tips with a tip diameter of 1.80 mm (0.0781 inches) and a 0-degree tip angle, delivering precise engagement with ring holes. An integrated limiter prevents over-expansion of the ring during installation. The steel body and non-slip plastic-coated handles give the tool durability and control in hands-on service environments.
These pliers are used by HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and mechanical service professionals whenever external retaining rings must be removed or seated on shafts, bearings, motor spindles, or gearbox components. The 180 mm (approximately 7.09 inches) overall length provides good leverage without becoming unwieldy in tight equipment cabinets or panel enclosures. The straight-head configuration is best suited for applications where direct, inline access to the ring groove is available. The built-in spring returns the jaws to open position automatically, reducing hand fatigue during repetitive work.
Designed for use with external retaining rings falling within the 3/4 inch to 2-3/64 inch diameter range, in accordance with DIN 5254 A specifications.
Always power down and lock out equipment before servicing any assembly that requires retaining ring removal or installation. Wear appropriate eye protection, as retaining rings can release suddenly under spring tension. Confirm the correct tip size engages fully and squarely into the ring holes before applying force to avoid tip or ring damage. This tool is not tether capable and should be secured by other means when working at height or over open equipment.
