The KLEIN TOOLS KTSB15 is a double-fluted step drill bit engineered for clean, accurate hole drilling in sheet metal, electrical panels, conduit boxes, and similar thin-material applications. Constructed from M2 high-speed steel and coated with aluminum titanium nitride, this bit delivers a coating durability rated 10 times greater than standard black oxide finishes. The 3/8-inch hex shank seats securely in drill chucks without rounding out. A fast-starting, non-walking drill tip ensures the bit stays on target from the first contact, reducing setup time on the job. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors will find this bit a dependable everyday tool for knockout and enclosure work.
The KTSB15 covers 3 hole sizes ranging from 7/8 inch to 1-3/8 inches, making it well-suited for residential and light commercial electrical work where conduit knockouts, cable entries, and panel penetrations are regularly required. Laser-etched step markings identify each target hole size at a glance, eliminating the need to measure mid-task. The straight double-flute design clears chips efficiently, keeping cuts clean and reducing heat buildup during extended use.
Designed as a general-purpose step drill bit for use in 3/8-inch hex shank drill chucks; suitable for drilling thin sheet metal, plastic, and similar materials encountered in electrical panel, conduit, and enclosure work.
Installation of this bit is performed by electricians and other trades working with step drill applications in thin-gauge materials. Always de-energize and lock out electrical enclosures before drilling into panels or boxes, following applicable NFPA 70E safe work practices. Use appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before starting the drill. Avoid applying excessive lateral pressure, which can deflect the bit or widen holes beyond the intended step diameter.
