The KIDDE EDWARDS KI-DDOS is an intelligent duct smoke detector designed for use in aspiration smoke detection applications within commercial HVAC systems. It monitors air moving through ductwork and triggers an alarm when smoke particles are detected in the airstream, helping to prevent smoke circulation through a building before conditions escalate. The Optica series uses optical detection technology suited to the low-velocity, high-volume air sampling demands of duct-mounted installations. Licensed fire alarm technicians and HVAC service professionals are the primary installers of this device.
The KI-DDOS is intended for commercial and light industrial HVAC duct installations where early smoke detection in the air handling system is required by code or building specification. It is suited to air handling units, fan coil units, and supply or return duct runs where monitoring the airstream for smoke is part of the life safety system design. This unit is sold individually and is part of the KIDDE EDWARDS aspiration smoke detection product line.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation duct smoke detector for commercial HVAC aspiration smoke detection systems. Consult the manufacturer product data sheet and your fire alarm control panel documentation to confirm system compatibility before installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed fire alarm technician or qualified HVAC professional in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, and all applicable local codes. Disconnect power to the air handling unit and the fire alarm control panel circuit before servicing or replacing the detector. Do not install in duct sections where airflow velocity falls outside the detector's listed operating range. After installation, perform a full system functional test per the fire alarm system commissioning requirements.
