The KIDDE - EDWARDS 1085-N is a surface mount contact switch designed for use in security, fire alarm, and access control wiring applications. It mounts directly to a surface and connects via wire leads, making it suitable for door, window, or panel monitoring in both residential and commercial installations. Licensed alarm technicians and low-voltage electricians are the primary installers of this device. The 1085-N is sold as a single unit and is a straightforward, reliable contact solution for perimeter detection circuits.
This surface contact switch is used in applications where a recessed mount is not practical or possible. Common install scenarios include monitoring hinged doors, access panels, and enclosure covers. It is well suited for both new installations and retrofit work where existing wiring infrastructure is already in place. The wire lead termination style allows direct connection to alarm control panel zones or input modules without additional hardware.
Designed as an OEM-style surface contact switch for use in standard low-voltage security, fire alarm, and access control wiring systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed low-voltage or alarm technician in accordance with applicable local codes and NFPA 72 where fire alarm applications are involved. De-energize the control panel zone before making or breaking wire connections. Mount the switch body to a clean, flat surface using appropriate fasteners, and position the actuating magnet on the moving door or panel so it aligns with the switch at the closed position. Avoid pinching or over-bending wire leads during installation.
