The KIDDE 21025778 is a battery-operated carbon monoxide alarm designed for residential installation. It runs on two AA batteries, which are included, providing continuous CO monitoring even during a power outage. The unit uses an electrochemical sensor specific to carbon monoxide detection, offering accurate, gas-selective readings without false triggers from other airborne compounds. A green LED flashes every 60 seconds during normal operation to confirm the unit is active. When CO concentrations reach a dangerous level, a red LED pulses and a loud alarm pattern sounds: four short beeps, five seconds of silence, then four more beeps, repeating for four minutes before cycling to once per minute until the alarm is reset or CO is cleared.
This alarm is suited for residential applications where a hardwired installation is not practical or desired. It mounts in living spaces, bedrooms, hallways, or utility areas where gas-burning appliances, attached garages, or other CO sources present risk. Licensed electricians, HVAC technicians, and general contractors commonly specify battery-operated CO alarms for new construction punch-out, rental unit compliance, and retrofit installations. The unit operates across a temperature range of 40 degrees F to 100 degrees F and a relative humidity range of 5 to 95 percent RH, making it appropriate for most conditioned interior environments.
Designed as an OEM-style battery-operated carbon monoxide alarm for residential use in single-family homes, apartments, and similar occupied spaces where local codes require CO detection.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed electrician, HVAC technician, or qualified contractor, though many jurisdictions permit homeowner installation of battery-only CO alarms. Follow local building codes and NFPA 720 guidelines for placement requirements, including recommended mounting heights relative to floor level. No electrical shutoff is required for a battery-only unit, but ensure batteries are fully seated and the battery compartment is properly closed before mounting. Do not install in locations subject to temperatures, humidity, or airflow conditions outside the rated operating range, and avoid placement directly adjacent to cooking appliances or in areas with poor air circulation.
