The KEO 956-000-168 is a general-purpose spotting drill designed to create accurate starting points for twist drills, reamers, and other rotary cutting tools. Built from Cobalt M-42 high-speed steel, it delivers added heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tools, making it a reliable choice for harder materials and higher-production environments. The 90-degree point angle produces a clean, centered spot that guides subsequent drilling operations and reduces walking. At 20 mm in cutting diameter and 131 mm in overall length, this is a substantial spotting tool suited for machining centers, knee mills, and manual drill presses. Machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers working in job shops or production facilities are the typical users.
This spotting drill is used in general machining applications where accurate hole location is required before full-depth drilling. The 90-degree point angle is compatible with most standard twist drill point geometries, making it versatile across a wide range of workpiece materials including mild steel, alloy steel, aluminum, and stainless. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly into standard collets or chucks without an adapter. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for general-purpose work and allows easy visual inspection of the cutting edges. A right-hand cutting direction means it runs with conventional spindle rotation on all standard machine tools.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard collets, end mill holders, or drill chucks accepting a 20 mm straight cylindrical shank on conventional and CNC machine tools.
This tool is installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight shank fully into the collet or chuck and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Spotting drills are intended for shallow operations only - do not use as a full-depth drill or apply side loads that could induce deflection or chipping at the cutting edges.
