The KEO 902-000-018 is a solid pilot counterbore designed for precision spotfacing and counterboring operations in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from cobalt steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers durability and heat resistance suited for ferrous and harder alloy materials. The tool features a 0.414-inch counterbore diameter, a 0.281-inch oversize pilot diameter, and a 3-flute geometry that provides clean, efficient cutting action in forward direction. With a 5/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank and a 4.5-inch overall length, it mounts reliably in standard drill press and milling machine setups. Licensed machinists and tool and die professionals are the typical end users.
This counterbore is sized for use with 1/4-inch socket-head cap screws, making it a common choice on shop floors where socket-head fasteners require properly sized seating holes. It is well suited to general metalworking, toolroom work, light aerospace fabrication where aircraft-style tooling is not required, and production machining environments that demand consistent counterbore depth and diameter. The oversize pilot aids in maintaining concentricity with pre-drilled clearance holes during the counterboring operation.
Designed for use with 1/4-inch socket-head cap screws. Fits machine spindles and drill chucks accepting a 5/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Secure the workpiece firmly before beginning the counterboring operation and ensure the spindle is fully stopped before measuring depth or changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Inspect the pilot and cutting edges for wear or damage before each use.
