The KENNAMETAL 7097849 is a double-end carbide grooving insert designed for external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 0.25 inch cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 0.208 inches, and a full corner radius of 0.125 inches. The insert is manufactured in grade KCU10B with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing heat resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. A positive rake geometry and GMN chip breaker work together to promote chip control and reduce cutting forces during grooving passes.
This insert is suited for production turning environments where consistent groove width and depth repeatability are required. The neutral hand orientation and clamp-style holding method make it compatible with A4-series toolholders. It is appropriate for use in automotive, aerospace, and general machining shops running medium to high production volumes. The double-end configuration delivers two usable cutting edges per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost on repetitive grooving operations.
Designed for use with A4-series grooving toolholders that accept size 6 grooving inserts with clamp-style retention.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert seat and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque driver for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer.
