The KENNAMETAL 7090618 is a VNGP-style diamond turning insert designed for precision lathe and turning center operations. Built from carbide with a KCU10B grade designation, this insert features an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed cutting. The diamond-shaped insert body carries a 35-degree included angle, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0313-inch corner radius. With two cutting edges per insert and a neutral hand orientation, it suits a range of turning applications where a sharp, pointed profile is required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this insert in toolholders configured for VNGP geometry.
This insert is suited for external turning and finishing operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where the narrow 35-degree diamond profile provides access to tight geometries or profiling cuts. The KCU10B carbide grade paired with the AlTiN coating makes it a strong candidate for interrupted cuts and applications generating elevated cutting temperatures. The P-style chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of feed rates. Insert thickness is 0.1875 inches (3/16 inch), consistent with size code 432 toolholder pockets.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for VNGP-geometry turning toolholders accepting size 432 inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the toolholder pocket for damage or debris before seating the new insert.
