The KENNAMETAL 6997668 is a SNMG432MV KCP40B carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiN, TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering a combination of high toughness on steel and moderate wear resistance on stainless steel. The insert carries a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches. The MV chip breaker geometry is suited for roughing and medium machining passes. With 8 available cutting edges per insert, it offers extended tool life per unit cost across high-volume production environments.
This insert fits into the KENLOC series toolholding system and is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians performing turning, facing, and boring operations. Primary applications include roughing and medium-depth cuts on steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) components. The neutral hand orientation supports use in both left-hand and right-hand toolholders where SNMG-style inserts are specified. The insert accepts both clamp and pin holding methods, providing flexibility across multiple toolholder configurations in job shop and production floor settings.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting SNMG432 (ISO SNMG120408) inserts with clamp or pin holding. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces per ISO material codes P and M.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before placing the insert. Torque clamping screws only to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert.
