Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 6781141 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel and other demanding workpiece materials. Built from solid carbide and finished with a multi-layer AlTiN and TiN proprietary coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and heat resistance under aggressive feed and speed conditions. It features a 140-degree point angle for precise entry and reduced thrust, a right-hand cutting direction, and a regular spiral flute geometry. At 4.22 mm in diameter with an overall length of 66.00 mm, it fits the compact footprint typical of screw machine length tooling. Grade KCP15B carbide substrate is selected for toughness in steel cutting applications.

This drill bit is suited for production machining environments where short, rigid tooling is preferred over jobber length bits. The straight cylindrical shank at 6.00 mm diameter seats directly in standard collet chucks and drill chucks found on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines. Primary workpiece material is steel, making it a practical choice for machine shops, tool rooms, and production lines running ferrous materials at volume. The HPX series designation identifies it within KENNAMETAL's solid carbide drill lineup optimized for steel cutting.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction in grade KCP15B for strength and wear resistance in steel
  • Multi-layer AlTiN and TiN coating reduces heat buildup and extends cutting edge life
  • 140-degree point angle minimizes walking and reduces required thrust force at entry
  • Regular spiral flute design promotes consistent chip evacuation during drilling
  • Straight cylindrical shank at 6.00 mm fits standard collets and chucks without adapters
  • Maximum drilling depth of 17.00 mm with a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio

Compatibility

Designed as a screw machine length solid carbide drill in the KENNAMETAL HPX series, suitable for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines accepting a 6.00 mm straight shank. Primary application is drilling steel workpieces within the 3.50 mm to 5.00 mm drill bit size range family.

Installation Notes

This tooling is installed and serviced by machinists and tool room technicians. Before changing or setting this bit, ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the straight shank fully and evenly in the collet or chuck to the specified shank engagement depth before tightening. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so confirm external coolant or mist delivery is configured appropriately for the cutting application.
