The KENNAMETAL 6687082 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG432FP geometry with KCS10B grade designation. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) AlTiN coating engineered for high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloy workpiece materials. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a negative rake angle, and an FP chip breaker optimized for finishing operations. With four usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert delivers consistent surface finish performance in turning, facing, and boring applications. Machinists and CNC operators working in production or job shop environments install this insert in compatible KENLOC-series toolholders.
This insert is suited for finishing cuts on stainless steel, carbon steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium. The FP chip breaker geometry controls chip flow at the light depths of cut typical in finishing passes. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations in turning centers and lathes. Primary workpiece material codes covered are P, M, K, N, S, and H, giving the insert broad material range for shops running mixed-material production schedules.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series clamp and pin style toolholders accepting CNMG432 inserts. Compatible with toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for CNMG120408 insert geometry. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping style before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench on the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping pin for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
