The KENNAMETAL 6573317 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drill toolholders in metal-cutting operations. This insert features the KCU25 manufacturer grade with an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering thermal resistance and wear protection in demanding drilling applications. It carries a Trigon (84-degree included angle) shape with a DS chipbreaker geometry, a 12 mm inscribed circle, a thickness of 3/16 inches, and a corner radius of 1/32 inches. The insert is neutral-hand and suits high-productivity hole-making in steel and other ferrous materials. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production or job-shop environments are the typical end users.
This insert is intended for indexable drilling operations on CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and dedicated drilling machines. The DFT insert style fits KENNAMETAL-compatible indexable drill bodies that accept size 7 inserts. The DS chipbreaker geometry is suited for applications where chip control and evacuation are critical, such as deep-hole entry drilling or interrupted-cut conditions in ferrous workpieces. It is sold individually but subject to a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces.
Designed as a direct-fit indexable drill insert for KENNAMETAL DFT-style indexable drill bodies accepting size 7 inserts with a 4.4 mm mounting hole diameter. No additional compatible model numbers were specified in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before removing or seating any insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
