The KENNAMETAL 6388832 is a replaceable drill tip designed for modular indexable drill systems where repeatable accuracy and fast insert changes are required. Built from fine grain solid carbide with a KCP15A grade and a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, this tip delivers thermal resistance and edge durability in demanding cutting environments. The 180-degree point angle provides a flat entry profile suited for precise hole initiation. With a cutting diameter of 0.6220 inches (15.80 mm) and a functional length of 0.3110 inches, it is a purpose-built consumable for production drilling operations in metal fabrication and machining shops.
This replaceable tip is intended for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces in both standard and challenging setups. It is engineered for applications including inclined-exit drilling and stacked-plate drilling, where entry and exit conditions are irregular. The two-flute, two-margin helical flute geometry with a regular spiral promotes chip evacuation and bore surface quality. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, tier suppliers, and general manufacturing facilities are the primary users. The tip mounts via clamp-style insert holding into a seat size T drill body within the KTFSS series platform.
Designed for use with KTFSS series modular drill bodies accepting seat size T inserts, as specified by KENNAMETAL. ISO number KTFSS15800HPGM identifies the compatible insert geometry and body interface.
Replaceable drill tips of this type are installed and changed by machinists or tooling technicians following machine lockout and spindle stop procedures before any insert handling. Seat surfaces on the drill body should be inspected and cleaned before seating the new tip to ensure proper clamping force and runout. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw - do not overtighten. Consult the applicable machine shop safety standards and tooling manufacturer documentation for recommended cutting parameters before use.
