The KENNAMETAL 6388767 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in metalworking applications. It carries the manufacturer part number KTFSS13500HPGM and runs in the KTFS series. The cutting tip is solid carbide with an AlTiN coating applied via a PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting speeds. The drill features a 143-degree included angle and an HPG insert geometry optimized for chip formation. With a 13.5mm (0.5315 inch) cutting diameter, this drill is suited for production environments where repeatable hole quality and fast tip changes are required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tooling.
This replaceable tip drill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and live-tool lathes performing precision drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The KTFS series platform accepts an insert seat size Q tip, allowing worn tips to be swapped without replacing the full drill body. This makes it a cost-effective option for high-volume drilling operations in job shops and production facilities. No coolant-through capability is present on this configuration, so external coolant delivery or air blast should be used to manage chip evacuation and heat at the cutting zone.
Designed for use with KTFS series drill bodies accepting insert seat size Q replaceable tips. Verify body seat size and series compatibility before ordering to ensure proper tip seating and runout performance.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine placed in a safe, locked-out state before tip removal or installation. Use the appropriate torque wrench or insert key specified for the KTFS body to seat the tip securely - do not over-torque or substitute non-specified tools. Inspect the insert seat for debris or damage before installing a new tip, as contamination can affect runout and hole quality.
