The KENNAMETAL 6388714 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in metalworking applications. It carries the manufacturer part designation KTFSS11500HPGM and is built to the KCP15A grade with a solid carbide tip and a PVD-applied AlTiN coating for heat and wear resistance. The drill features a 143-degree included point angle and an HPG insert geometry, which supports aggressive chip evacuation and stable entry in interrupted or continuous cuts. Cutting diameter is 11.5 millimeters (0.4528 inches). The replaceable tip design reduces tooling cost by allowing tip exchange without discarding the entire drill body.
This drill is suited for production machining environments where consistent hole quality and extended tool life are required. Typical applications include drilling steel, stainless steel, and cast iron in CNC machining centers and drill presses running at programmed feeds and speeds. The KTFS series platform is intended for shops running high-volume operations that benefit from a standardized replaceable tip system. Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians familiar with indexable and replaceable tip tooling systems.
Designed for use within the KTFS series replaceable tip drill platform. The M insert seat size determines body compatibility. Verify seat size and series designation on the drill body before ordering replacement tips.
Replaceable tip installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate torque tool specified for the KTFS body. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a vise or tool holder before tip removal or installation. Inspect the insert seat for chips, contamination, or wear before seating a new tip. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and insert manufacturer guidelines for recommended feeds, speeds, and clamping procedure.
