The KENNAMETAL 6388694 is a replaceable drill tip designed for modular drilling systems that accept KTFSS-series inserts. Built from fine-grain solid carbide and coated with AlTiN via a PVD process, this tip delivers thermal resistance and edge retention in demanding cutting applications. It features a 180-degree point angle with a standard point type and helical flutes in a regular spiral configuration. The cutting diameter is 0.4213 inches (10.70 mm), the functional length is 0.2107 inches, and the overall projection is 0.3028 inches. The two-flute, two-margin geometry suits precision drilling where hole quality and dimensional accuracy are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shop or production environments are the primary installers.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling operations in steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P and K. The HPG insert geometry and KCP15A grade make it a practical choice for through-hole and blind-hole drilling in both standard and challenging entry conditions. The tip is compatible with inclined-exit drilling, stacked-plate drilling, and general production drilling setups. It seats in an insert seat size K holder and is clamped mechanically into the tool body. Coolant-through capability is not supported by this tip, so external coolant or minimum quantity lubrication strategies should be used when heat management is required.
Designed for use with KTFSS-series modular drill bodies that accept insert seat size K. ISO number KTFSS10700HPGM identifies the tip geometry within the KTFSS platform. Confirm body compatibility with seat size K before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the drill tip. Use the appropriate torx or clamp-screw driver specified by the tool body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force - do not over-torque the clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new tip to ensure accurate seating and runout performance.
