The KENNAMETAL 6388676 is a replaceable drill tip designed for use with modular indexable drill systems. Built from fine-grain solid carbide in grade KCP15A, this tip features a 180-degree point angle, helical fluting, and a physical vapor deposition (PVD)-applied AlTiN coating for heat and wear resistance. The tip measures 0.3976 inches (10.00 mm) in cutting diameter with a functional length of 0.1988 inches and an overall projection of 0.2870 inches. It carries an HPG insert geometry and fits an J-series seat. Licensed metalworking shops and machine operators performing production drilling work will find this tip suited to demanding material removal applications.
This replaceable tip is engineered for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. It supports demanding drilling scenarios including inclined exit surfaces, stacked plates, and standard through-hole drilling. The two-flute, two-margin, regular-spiral design provides stable chip evacuation and consistent hole quality. The KTFSS series platform uses a clamp-style insert holding method. This tip does not include coolant-through capability, so external or flood coolant delivery should be planned accordingly when setting up the operation.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for KTFSS-series modular indexable drills using a J-series insert seat. ISO number KTFSS10100HPGM identifies the tip geometry within the KTFSS platform.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully powered down and the machine locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamp; do not exceed the torque range called out in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert seat for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new tip, as a contaminated seat will affect runout and hole quality. Because this tip does not have coolant-through capability, verify that the coolant delivery method in the setup adequately reaches the cutting zone to prevent thermal damage.
