The KENNAMETAL 6388598 is a replaceable drill tip designed for use with compatible modular drill bodies in demanding metal-removal applications. Built from solid carbide with a fine-grain substrate and a KCP15A manufacturer grade, this tip delivers consistent cutting performance in steel and cast iron. The AlTiN coating is applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during high-speed drilling cycles. The tip measures 0.3189 inches (8.00 mm) in cutting diameter, features a 180-degree point angle, and uses a helical flute design with two flutes and two margins. It fits an F-series insert seat and is held in place by a clamp-style insert holding method.
This replaceable drill tip is suited for production drilling environments where tooling changeover speed and consistent hole quality matter. It is designed for primary workpiece materials including steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K). Rated applications include standard drilling, drilling on inclined exits, and drilling through stacked plates. The HPG insert geometry and regular spiral type support controlled chip evacuation in these conditions. This tip does not include coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for setups where through-spindle coolant is not available or required.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL KTFSS-series modular drill bodies that accept an F-series insert seat. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K).
Installation and removal of replaceable drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the manufacturer-specified clamp torque driver or key for the KTFSS seat to avoid seat damage or tip movement during operation. Inspect the insert seat for wear or debris before seating a new tip. Do not exceed the drill body manufacturer's recommended speed and feed parameters for the KCP15A grade and workpiece material combination.
